There is no single “best” mobile network in Pakistan — the right choice depends on where you live, what you do online, and your budget. A network that is excellent in one city can be patchy two hours down the road. This guide compares Jazz, Zong, Ufone and Telenor on the things that actually matter in 2026, and helps you match a network to your needs.
The market in 2026, briefly
Pakistan’s mobile market has consolidated from four competing operators to three groups: Jazz (the largest by subscribers), the PTCL group (Ufone, now merging with the recently-acquired Telenor), and Zong (China Mobile’s CMPak, the independent operator). Telenor still runs under its own brand during the transition but will eventually integrate with Ufone.
What the benchmarks say (and why they disagree)
Two respected sources measure network performance differently, and they crown different winners — which tells you how close the race is:
- OpenSignal (Q1 2026), based on over a billion real-user measurements across 159 districts, named Zong the top overall performer nationally — winning download speed, upload speed, video and network availability. Jazz placed second and led speed/video in several major cities. Ufone was best for gaming, and Telenor recorded the weakest national speeds.
- Ookla (H1 2026) ranked Jazz the fastest network by median download speed.
The takeaway: Jazz and Zong are the two front-runners and trade the lead depending on how and where you measure. Ufone is the value and gaming pick, and Telenor’s strength is specific regions rather than raw speed.
Operator-by-operator
Jazz
The widest coverage in the country, and usually the safest choice for travel, highways and rural areas, including the north. Strong urban speeds, the biggest subscriber base, and the dominant mobile-money platform (JazzCash). Downsides: networks can feel congested at peak hours in dense cities.
Zong
A data-first network that tops several national performance metrics and is a favourite of heavy streamers and gamers for its download speeds and low latency in cities. Coverage is excellent in urban areas but can thin out in some remote regions, so confirm signal where you actually use it.
Ufone
The budget and gaming choice. Affordable bundles aimed at students and light users, strong call quality and all-network minutes, and consistently good multiplayer-gaming performance. As part of the PTCL group it is set to absorb Telenor’s network over time, which should widen its reach.
Telenor
Historically strong in rural Punjab, KPK and the northern regions with high availability, though its raw data speeds now trail the others. Telenor is being integrated into Ufone under PTCL; your number, balance and packages remain valid throughout the transition.
Which network should you choose?
| Your priority | Best fit |
|---|---|
| Widest coverage / travel / rural & highways | Jazz (Telenor in parts of the north) |
| Fastest data / streaming in cities | Zong or Jazz |
| Online gaming (low ping) | Ufone or Zong |
| Lowest cost / student budget | Ufone |
| Mobile money (wallet) ecosystem | Jazz (JazzCash) |
The one test that beats every ranking
National averages cannot tell you what happens on your street. Before you port your number, buy a cheap prepaid SIM of the network you are considering and use it for a week at home and at work. Run a speed-test app and check call quality. Many Pakistanis keep a dual-SIM phone for exactly this reason — one network for coverage, another for data. If you decide to switch, you can keep your number by sending MNP to 667 (see our porting guide).
Frequently asked questions
Which is the best network in Pakistan in 2026?
It depends on your location and usage. Jazz has the widest coverage and is best for travel and rural areas; Zong leads several national data benchmarks and suits heavy streamers; Ufone is the budget and gaming pick; Telenor is strong in the rural north but slower overall and merging into Ufone.
Which network is fastest for internet?
It is close. OpenSignal’s Q1 2026 data put Zong top nationally, while Ookla’s H1 2026 report ranked Jazz fastest. In practice, Jazz and Zong are the two fastest, and which wins depends on your city.
Which network is best for gaming?
Ufone has been rated the strongest for multiplayer gaming, with Zong also favoured for low latency. Test ping in your area before committing.
Will Telenor stop working after merging with Ufone?
No. Telenor continues to operate during the transition; your number, balance and packages stay valid. Integration with Ufone is gradual, with no forced number changes.
Network performance, packages and coverage change constantly and vary street to street. Treat rankings as a starting point and test a network in your own area before switching.
